A Day in the Life of a CAD Piping Design Drafter

Our CAD Design Drafters work closely with our Estimators and Project Managers to prepare and revise 3D models and 2D piping system designs for customers using various BIM and CAD software packages. The BIM and CAD software our Drafters use include Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Speedikon, COMOS, and E3D.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Our CAD Piping Designers:

• Primarily prepare and revise 3-D models utilizing BIM software.
• Prepare and revise computer generated 2-D engineering drawings and 3-D models according to established standards and procedures in Autodesk Revit.
• Create and revise equipment layout, piping, instrumentation, mechanical, civil, structural, and architectural drawings and models.
• Creates and revises drawings and models from sketches, plans, and written and verbal instructions.
• Utilize redline system and verify all associated items are updated throughout the drawing set.
• Interface and communicate with project engineers, project managers, engineering contractors, other designers, and manufacturing staff as required.
• Provides input regarding company graphics standards and procedures. Support development and documentation of design standards, user guides, and procedures to create uniform drawings and documentation.
• Perform engineering support tasks including plotting drawings, filing originals, and creating PDF's.
• Test updates or new version of CAD/CAE tools for backward compatibility and new functionality.
• Other tasks and duties as assigned to support engineering and maintenance groups.

Qualifications and Skills :

• Associates degree in computer aided drafting/design or related field. Previous relevant work experience can be used to substitute education requirements.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit modeling software.
• Ability to complete drafting assignments under minimal supervision.
• 1-3 years of professional experience working with 2 or more of these CAD software packages: AutoCAD, MicroStation, Speedikon, COMOS or E3D Software. Preferably working in engineering and construction projects.
• Strong and effective communication skills in English (oral and writing).
• Ability to multi-task and professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic user of Microsoft WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT
